first teaching experience

P4220018

This is hard stuff.  I prepared all day for my 30 minute teaching lesson and I felt like I didn’t teach them anything.  Our teacher assured me that wasn’t the case but talking to 3 people that only understand a few words of what you say is challenging!  I don’t think I wrote about our 60 minute emersion Czech lesson to help us understand how difficult it is for people who who don’t understand what you are saying.  I ended up being able to say “good day” in Czech and then I don’t say it very well.  Oh well, that’s what we came for.

We had our first look at the city today and it is beautiful!!

  1. I recall trying to run an ESL class for Somalis and just being devastated by how inept I was -- just remember that you have taken on a BIG challenge with a steep learning curve. We're all cheering for you from across the water!

(By the way, I looked up first, second, and third conditionals and I couldn't understand it either...)

  2. Don't forget the most important things to know in Czech:
knedlíky a kyselé zelí (sauerkraut and dumplings) and of course Pivo. You could survive the whole trip on just those!

Hey Jerry I once did a consulting gig for the Prague Castle. It brings back good memories!
