planes, trains, trams, buses and dolmuses

Over the last two weeks we have had the opportunity to use almost all the various forms of Turkish transportation from the local tram system in Eskisehir to the bus and train and airplane systems throughout the country.  All of it has been clean, good service (cay (tea) and snacks) and on time.  Coming back from Trabzon we arrived at the airport at 12:10,  picked up our luggage and a taxi ride of 30 minutes to the train station and we were still in time to catch the 1:00 train back to Eskisehir.  Also there is unique service in several cities we have visited called dolmuses.  These are shared rides usually in cars or minibuses.  They have signs on the top of the car saying where they go and then you get in and wait for the car to fill up before they take off.  It’s 1.5 Turkish Lira each and you just let the driver know when you want off.  We used them several times and never waited more than 5 minutes for other people to join the ride.  Very economical and fun way to get around.  We are really seeing Turkey this time with lots of walking thrown in just for good measure.
