We had an unexpected treat on Friday.  We spent the day with the tour driver from Thursday and the couple from Australia.  They arranged the day and we came along.  First stop was a cave with a stream running through it which was beautiful and interesting, though it was closed until our driver went up to the village and found the person to open and guide us as you may have heard us say the people are very nice. The highlight of the day was what they called a “plateau” looking down on the world.  We switch backed up the mountain (no idea of the name) and gradually started driving in the clouds.  When we reached the top we were actually above the clouds and up there it was a perfect sunny day.  Unfortunately I don’t possess the vocabulary to describe the beauty, I hope the pictures will do it justice.  At the top there were houses and restaurants which are open in the summer.   I imagine it is a popular trekking location during the summer, but we were the only people at the top except for a caretaker and his dog which quickly became attached to my hand (petting his head).

The other interesting discovery from our mountain drive is that the WOMEN do the work in the fields.  As we were driving  we passed fields on the sides of the mountain (very steep( many looked like 90 degrees) fields) and the only ones working the land were women.  According to our guide the men are talking and solving the worlds problems as they were drinking tea while the women work.  That’s the only time I’ve seen that in Turkey and we were quite surprised; however, it is apparently pretty normal occurrence in the smaller villages in the north by the Black Sea.   They were working very hard!!   The whole trip to Trabzon was delightful and the weather could not have been more wonderful.  Also we had a wonderful lunch of fresh fish in the sun by the lake as you can see.  Then a quick stop an old church, mosque, church, mosque, etc.
