It’s warm!! I was finally able to put on sandals instead of tennis shoes. We’re on the Mediterranean coast in the very lively city of Antalya. I can’t quite imagine what it is like in the real tourist season, it was already pretty busy. Today we visited Aspendos which features the best preserved Roman Theater and Perge, a “spectacular” Greco-Roman city. Our pictures are all starting to run together so I can’t put names on the pictures but it was amazing to walk and climb on these old old old ruins. As is true of most foreign countries there are very few restrictions on where you can climb. The restricted places were the ones being restored which is going on in some parts of most of the ruins. Of course, we have to climb on almost everything that has steps because they feed us three meals a day on this trip.
Huge breakfast buffets, a lunch stop with all the courses, and then a big dinner buffet. Of course it’s already paid for so you have to eat it, right?? Food has been great. We don’t drink the water but everyone eats the salads and strawberries which are washed in the tap water and so far everyone has been healthy except our tour guide who has a bad cold.
It’s interesting being part of a tour with a guide. It’s all very easy, he gets the room keys, luggage gets delivered and picked up at the front door, all the conveniences; however, you miss out on mixing with the Turkish people and being part of the culture. We treasure our time spent in Eskisehir.
